Admiral Sir Jonathon Band, the former First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff hand-delivers the last of over 100 poppy wreaths to Master of Queen Mary 2, Captain Andrew Hall, as the wreaths embark on a seven-night transatlantic crossing to New York.
As the last wreath was handed over a Hurricane flew overhead to mark the occasion.
To mark VE Day and in support of The Veterans Charity, over 100 wreaths were delivered to Cunard’s flagship, Queen Mary 2 today where they will embark on a special transatlantic journey on behalf of the charity’s Routes of Remembrance campaign.
Captain Hall, said: “It’s a tremendous honour to be able to support The Veterans Charity and raise awareness for those who have selflessly given their lives to protect so many. As we come together on VE Day it is a further reminder for all of us, that we should never forget the tremendous sacrifice that came before us.”
The Routes of Remembrance campaign connects communities across the globe by sending wreaths and tributes on poignant journeys to honour and remember those who have given their lives in service. For more information visit https://www.veteranscharity.org.uk/remembrance
