Staff member Jennifer Newbery inspects an original libretto which features in the new Rodelinda exhibition at the Handel Hendrix House Museum in London celebrating the 300th anniversary of Handel’s opera first staged at the King’s Theatre on 13th February; 1725.
The exhibition features a rarely seen portrait of the great castrato singer Senesino, one of the stars of the first performance.
Handel’s music captivated Londoners with a narrative of daring prison escapes, heart-rending laments, tender love duets, rage arias and pastoral music.
