Race officers at the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes conduct the start of the 1,204 yachts competing in the 87th annual Round The Island Race. The world famous event saw some 12,000 competitors undertake the 50 nautical mile circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight off the south coast of the UK. Light winds on the day meant a slow rounding with the first boat across the line, the MOD70 foiling trimaran Concise Fling with Ned Collier Wakefield on the helm, in 8:34:09. That's more than six hours longer than the race record. High Potential from Lymington won the coveted Gold Roman Bowl.
